Prayer in the spirit of Taizé is ecumenical, for Christians of all denominations. This style of prayer is almost entirely sung, except for scripture readings, short spoken prayers, and periods of silence. The songs are composed of short texts that are repeated many times. This element of repetition is closely allied to their meditative character. The meaning of each song can be quickly grasped by the mind, and can then little by little take root in the heart as it is repeated. The songs are intended to help open a contemplative dimension of prayer, and they are intended to allow the participation of everyone.
